Pt. 53 - Measure The Temple

Written by

Measure the Temple1 I was given a reed like a measuring rod and was told, “Go and measure the temple of God and the altar, and count the worshipers there. 2 But exclude the outer court; do not measure it, because it has been given to the Gentiles. They will trample on the holy city for 42 months. 3 And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth.4 These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of the earth. 5 If anyone tries to harm them, fire comes from their mouths and devours their enemies. This is how anyone who wants to harm them must die. 6 These men have power to shut up the sky so that it will not rain during the time they are prophesying; and they have power to turn the waters into blood and to strike the earth with every kind of plague as often as they want." (Revelation 11:1-6)

“Measure the Temple”

The word we interpret as “measure” in English is ’umod’ in Hebrew, pronounced ’oo-mode’. This word comes from the Hebrew verb ‘mahd’, which means ’to cover with a garment’ or ’to measure’ or ’to extend protection’. In other words, while we read the surface text and think of John merely measuring the size of the temple and altar - seemingly pointless since no dimensions are given - it seems what John was actually told to do was to provide protection for the temple complex. In other words, he was told to provide a covering with the power given to him as one of the two witnesses.

Pt. 52 - The Two Witnesses (continued)

Written by
Two Witnesses 4Despite the biblical evidence given in the previous post, most will still find it difficult to believe that any of the disciples could still be alive today, and frankly, I understand. But would this really be a difficult thing for God to do? After all, mortal man lived almost a thousand years prior to the great flood, and will also live that long or longer during the millennial age. Plus, we were designed to live for an eternity in these bodies before sin entered the world, and we will live for an eternity in our glorified bodies once we are redeemed at the end of this age. All that is required is the will of the Sustainer.

Unfortunately, our pre-conceived notions of what is 'possible' almost requires that we consider alternate meanings for those prophecies in the previous post. We seemingly just cannot accept the possibility that at least two of the disciples are still alive, so we have to create different meanings for certain prophecies in order to make sense of them.

Pt. 51 - The Two Witnesses

Written by

Two Witnesses 3Then the voice that I had heard from heaven spoke to me once more: “Go, take the scroll that lies open in the hand of the angel who is standing on the sea and on the land.” So I went to the angel and asked him to give me the little scroll. He said to me, “Take it and eat it. It will turn your stomach sour, but in your mouth it will be as sweet as honey.” I took the little scroll from the angel’s hand and ate it. It tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth, but when I had eaten it, my stomach turned sour. Then I was told, “You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, languages and kings.”

I was given a reed like a measuring rod and was told, “Go and measure the temple of God and the altar, and count the worshipers there. But exclude the outer court; do not measure it, because it has been given to the Gentiles. They will trample on the holy city for 42 months. And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth. (Revelation 10:8-11:1-3)

Chapters 10 and 11 are not typically tied together when analyzing the Revelation, however there is a very good reason to do just that, since they are intimately related and intended to be read as a unit. So in this post, we’ll examine what John is told to do, and why, and then transition into one of the favorite topics of debate for many eschatology buffs; the potential identity of the two witnesses. And the conclusions indicated in this post will almost certainly run contrary to everything you have ever been taught about this topic.

The 7 Seals & 7 Trumpets of Jericho

Written by
Jericho WallsIn the last post we discussed the primary thrust of Revelation 10, which is the return of Jesus to raise the “dead in Christ” and to translate His living saints into their eternal state. However, there are a number of secondary issues in this passage that also deserve comment, because they confirm that this angel is indeed Jesus himself. So in this post we’ll discuss the seven thunders that the angel speaks, the oath he takes, and the mystery of God that coincides with Daniel’s 1,335 days.

With that said, one of the things we always have to keep in mind when reading New Testament scripture is that there will generally be a prior type for that event somewhere in the Old Testament. And while the seven seals and seven trumpets of the Revelation may seem like an entirely new revelation in the Bible, they are not. They have a precedent in the book of Joshua, with the fall of Jericho.

So with the seven seals and the first six trumpets in our rear view mirror, and the seventh trumpet directly ahead in this series, let’s see how those events correspond to Israel’s initial conquest in the promised land.

Pt. 49 - The "Little Scroll"

Written by
Ketubah JesusThen I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven. He was robed in a cloud, with a rainbow above his head; his face was like the sun, and his legs were like fiery pillars. He was holding a little scroll, which lay open in his hand. He planted his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land, and he gave a loud shout like the roar of a lion. When he shouted, the voices of the seven thunders spoke. And when the seven thunders spoke, I was about to write; but I heard a voice from heaven say, “Seal up what the seven thunders have said and do not write it down.” Then the angel I had seen standing on the sea and on the land raised his right hand to heaven. And he swore by him who lives for ever and ever, who created the heavens and all that is in them, the earth and all that is in it, and the sea and all that is in it, and said, “There will be no more delay! But in the days when the seventh angel is about to sound his trumpet, the mystery of God will be accomplished, just as he announced to his servants the prophets.” (Revelation 10:1-7)

A “Mighty Angel”

If we ever hope to understand the book of Revelation, we simply must understand the identity of this “mighty angel” and why he has come down to earth at this time. This is the defining moment that requires a choice; is he an angel like Gabriel, sent to deliver a message? Or, is He in fact the Angel of the LORD, our Messiah Yeshua/Jesus, coming to fulfill what has been prophesied for thousands of years? The answers to these questions will provide the framework for our entire understanding of the book of Revelation. If we get this wrong, we probably get the whole thing wrong.

Pt. 48 - The Sixth Trumpet

Written by
Four Angels Euphrates 2The sixth angel sounded his trumpet, and I heard a voice coming from the horns of the golden altar that is before God. It said to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, “Release the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates.” And the four angels who had been kept ready for this very hour and day and month and year were released to kill a third of mankind. The number of the mounted troops was two hundred million. I heard their number.

The horses and riders I saw in my vision looked like this: Their breastplates were fiery red, dark blue, and yellow as sulfur. The heads of the horses resembled the heads of lions, and out of their mouths came fire, smoke and sulfur. A third of mankind was killed by the three plagues of fire, smoke and sulfur that came out of their mouths. The power of the horses was in their mouths and in their tails; for their tails were like snakes, having heads with which they inflict injury.

The rest of mankind that were not killed by these plagues still did not repent of the work of their hands; they did not stop worshiping demons, and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone and wood—idols that cannot see or hear or walk. Nor did they repent of their murders, their magic arts, their sexual immorality or their thefts. (Revelation 9:13-21)

“From The Horns of The Golden Altar”

While the 1st woe of the fifth trumpet will bring horrifying torment to the doorsteps of the unbelieving, the 2nd woe of the sixth trumpet will bring actual death and destruction. In His effort the chasten mankind in order to bring them back to Him, God will ratchet up the pressure against the rebellious by sending supernatural pursuers against them. And from this point on, sanctuary will only be found in God.

Pt. 47 - The Destroyer

Written by
Abaddon - Destroyer"The locusts looked like horses prepared for battle. On their heads they wore something like crowns of gold, and their faces resembled human faces. Their hair was like women’s hair, and their teeth were like lions’ teeth. They had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the sound of their wings was like the thundering of many horses and chariots rushing into battle. They had tails and stings like scorpions, and in their tails they had power to torment people for five months. They had as king over them the angel of the Abyss, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek, Apollyon."

"The first woe is past; two other woes are yet to come." (Revelation 9:7-12)

This portion of the Fifth Trumpet provides a number of clues that tell us precisely who these spirits are, and I promise you they are not helicopters, as popularly portrayed.  The Bible is very clear about the symbolism used here, and these symbols point to a very specific group of spirits, as we’ve partially identified in the most recent posts.

Pt. 46 - Five Months of Torture

Written by
Scorpion Locust 1"They were told not to harm the grass of the earth or any plant or tree, but only those people who did not have the seal of God on their foreheads. They were not given power to kill them, but only to torture them for five months. And the agony they suffered was like that of the sting of a scorpion when it strikes a man. During those days men will seek death, but will not find it; they will long to die, but death will elude them." (Revelation 9:4-6)

In this opening sentence, notice how Christ uses Old Testament symbolism to point out two different groups of people. The first group symbolized by grass, plants and trees cannot by harmed, as though they are under God’s protection. However, the second group of people ARE allowed to be harmed and are referred to as those who “did not have the seal of God.”

Of course, this would imply that by this point in the end times, the people represented by the grass, plants and trees WILL have the seal of God, which is why they cannot be harmed by this demonic onslaught. And the reason why was given almost two thousand years ago by our Lord himself;

“I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.” (Luke 10:19)

Pt. 45 - Post-Flood Giants

Written by

Nimrod Painting 2“The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.” (Genesis 6:4)

When we left off last time, I had mentioned that the post-flood giants described in the Bible initially came through Ham’s line, and we’ll get to that in a moment. Since we presume that God chose Noah’s family to re-populate the earth because they were ‘tamiym’, or genetically pure and without Nephilim blood, then we have to wonder how the Nephilim came to exist again after the flood.

There are only two possible reasons for this re-emergence;  1) Additional Watcher angels fell a second time after the flood and once again took human wives, or;  2) One of the sons of Noah married a wife that carried at least some Nephilim DNA. Since there is no biblical or secular record of the “Sons of God” descending and fostering the Nephilim a second time after the flood, we can presume that the truth is behind door number two.

Pt. 44 - The Nephilim

Written by

Serpent Head CrushedThis post will focus on the origin and history of the Nephilim in order to demonstrate the strategy that Satan likely used in his attempt to gain dominion over the world. God gave this dominion to mankind, but as we have wandered from Him, it has defaulted more and more to Satan. And as we continue to rebel against God, we will eventually reach a point where Satan will be given full reign over the earth, just as he has always desired. Although this reign will not end well for him or his seed, he is nevertheless proud enough to believe that he can defeat the prophecies of God and gain his victory.

So what would Satan need to do in order to gain this full dominion? Well, he would have to completely break God’s chain of prophecy by eliminating the beneficiary of God promises. After all, if the seed or offspring of “the woman” (Gen 3:15) no longer existed on the earth, then there would be no reason for Jesus to return to save her, and no seed remaining to crush his head. The world would therefore remain in Satan’s hands as the “god of this age” (2Co 4:4), and he and his offspring would reign unfettered over the earth.
