Pt. 44 - The Nephilim

Serpent Head CrushedThis post will focus on the origin and history of the Nephilim in order to demonstrate the strategy that Satan likely used in his attempt to gain dominion over the world. God gave this dominion to mankind, but as we have wandered from Him, it has defaulted more and more to Satan. And as we continue to rebel against God, we will eventually reach a point where Satan will be given full reign over the earth, just as he has always desired. Although this reign will not end well for him or his seed, he is nevertheless proud enough to believe that he can defeat the prophecies of God and gain his victory.

So what would Satan need to do in order to gain this full dominion? Well, he would have to completely break God’s chain of prophecy by eliminating the beneficiary of God promises. After all, if the seed or offspring of “the woman” (Gen 3:15) no longer existed on the earth, then there would be no reason for Jesus to return to save her, and no seed remaining to crush his head. The world would therefore remain in Satan’s hands as the “god of this age” (2Co 4:4), and he and his offspring would reign unfettered over the earth.

Pt. 43 - The Fifth Trumpet

Locust Scorpions"The fifth angel sounded his trumpet, and I saw a star that had fallen from the sky to the earth. The star was given the key to the shaft of the Abyss. When he opened the Abyss, smoke rose from it like the smoke from a gigantic furnace. The sun and sky were darkened by the smoke from the Abyss. And out of the smoke locusts came down upon the earth and were given power like that of scorpions of the earth." (Revelation 9:1-3)

There is so much symbolism in this trumpet that it’s impossible to track it all down with one post. So our examination of this trumpet will be spread out over the next several posts in order to cover it as thoroughly as it deserves.

As the first supernatural 'woe' of God’s wrath, this particular trumpet will re-introduce countless spirits to the earth that have been here before, resulting in a dark reunion for legions of fallen angels and evil spirits, who in many instances were father and son. This reunion will re-ignite age-old hatreds and mark a turning point for mankind, as these spirits become literal terrors on earth for all that do not carry the seal of God.

Pt. 42 - The Fourth Trumpet

Fourth_TrumpetThe fourth angel sounded his trumpet, and a third of the sun was struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of them turned dark. A third of the day was without light, and also a third of the night. As I watched, I heard an eagle that was flying in midair call out in a loud voice: “Woe! Woe! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth, because of the trumpet blasts about to be sounded by the other three angels!”  (Revelation 8:12-13)

The sounding of this trumpet once again introduces us to some rather intense uses of symbolism, since the sun, moon and stars are “struck” and turn dark to varying degrees. While most commentaries will describe this as a literal physical phenomena, I think that misses the point of the vision.  Instead, this is most likely a reference to the forces of darkness described in the Bible, who stand in direct contrast to those “of the light”.

Once again, we have to remember that John saw these things in a vision, and visions in the Bible were always cloaked in symbolism and strange imagery. And while portions of these symbols are explained within this passage itself, let’s see if we can squeeze a little more out of them, based on what the Bible has revealed elsewhere.

Pt. 41 - The Third Trumpet

Star_Blazing"The third angel sounded his trumpet, and a great star, blazing like a torch, fell from the sky on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water—the name of the star is Wormwood. A third of the waters turned bitter, and many people died from the waters that had become bitter." (Revelation 8:10-11)

A Great Star

Most commentaries depict this “great star” as a comet or meteor of some sort that will crash into the earth, thereby poisoning a third of the earth’s rivers and springs. But this misses the point entirely. At the risk of beating this drum one too many times, John saw a vision when he saw these events, and visions in the Bible routinely used strange symbolism to depict a greater truth. So when we unpack this passage in a symbolic manner, the meaning is all too clear; this “great star” is Satan as he is being cast down to the earth.

Pt. 40 - the Second Trumpet

Huge_Mountain_Ablaze"The second angel sounded his trumpet, and something like a huge mountain, all ablaze, was thrown into the sea. A third of the sea turned into blood, a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed." (Revelation 8:8-9)

Mountains = Kingdoms

Before we go any further, it's worth mentioning again that the book of Revelation was transmitted to John as a vision, and as such, the text we are reading is not presenting a series of literal events, but rather, a series of symbols that represent literal events. There is a BIG difference in those two concepts, however this simple truth has largely been lost in today's eschatological circles. Instead of taking the text literally, we need to remember that the visions that God provided were always transmitted with bizarre and largely incomprehensible imagery, and these symbols were even confusing to the very prophets that received them. Fortunately for us, we have the Lord's scriptures to use as a primer for these symbols.

With that said, we have to understand that the term ‘mountain’ is used in the Bible in both a literal and figurative sense, depending on the context of the passage. It’s literal uses generally occur in the historical or narrative portions of scripture where actual mountains or mountain ranges are being identified and described. But in the prophetic passages, the term is often used as a symbol for a kingdom. And the reason for this seems clear enough; just as a mountain literally towered over it’s surrounding landscape, a kingdom figuratively towered over it’s surrounding society.

Pt. 39 - The First Trumpet

Trumpet_1_-_Hail__Fire"Then the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared to sound them."

"The first angel sounded his trumpet, and there came hail and fire mixed with blood, and it was hurled down upon the earth. A third of the earth was burned up, a third of the trees were burned up, and all the green grass was burned up." (Revelation 8:6-7)

Biblical Symbolism

Biblical prophecy is rich with symbolism that produces hidden meanings, and nowhere is this more apparent than in the text of the seven trumpets. What appears to be a series of literal events that will befall the earth are actually suggestive of something else entirely. When we consider the meanings behind these symbols that were associated with their prior biblical uses, it seems that they describe something far more sinister than mere natural disasters.

Martyrs in the Millions?

Hitler told us what he would do to the Jews.  He even wrote a book about it.  But we didn't take him seriously until he actually did what he promised. Then we watched in horror as millions of innocent men, women and children were exterminated in the Nazi death camps.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has also told us what he intends to do to the Jews. He intends to "wipe them from the face of the earth". But it seems we also don't take HIM seriously, even though he too intends to follow through on those promises in order to bring forth his messiah figure, the 12th Imam.

Now, we have Egyptian President Mohammed Mursi's own cleric telling the world what the Muslim Brotherhood is about to do to the Jews. They intend to march to Jerusalem en masse in order to exterminate the Jewish people and take Jerusalem as their capitol.  And still, nobody in the West seems to be taking them seriously.  Even to our own State Department in the United States, this Arab Spring is merely the Muslim people in North Africa making their bid for democracy.

Democracy and Islam are antithetical. Where there is Islam, there can be no democracy. As I've mentioned in so many other posts on this website, Islam is intent on ruling the world, period. Their law is Sharia, and democracy will never be allowed. Please keep this in mind as you view the following video, which clearly shows President Mursi's intent, as expressed by his cleric, while he himself sits on the stage nodding in agreement.

So I'm wondering.......will our government continue to ignore and/or encourage these threats until the Jewish people are once again savaged?  I think the answer is 'yes', and if America stands down and allows it to occur.......we'd better buckle up for our own judgment. There will be no peace for America if Israel falls again on our watch.

Pt. 38 - Silence in Heaven

Seven_Trumpets_2When he opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and to them were given seven trumpets. Another angel, who had a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense to offer, with the prayers of all the saints, on the golden altar before the throne. The smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of the saints, went up before God from the angel’s hand. Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and hurled it on the earth; and there came peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning and an earthquake. (Revelation 8:1-5)

30 Minutes of Silence

This is yet another passage where Hebraic traditions, specifically those that occurred in the Temple, shed more light on what is happening at this point. This silence is not just out of respect for God, rather it reflects something that happened within the Temple during the morning and evening services to knock down the odor from thousands of animal sacrifices.

Pt. 37 - Those in White Robes

White_Robes_2After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice: “Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.”

All the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures. They fell down on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying: “Amen! Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever. Amen!”

Then one of the elders asked me, “These in white robes—who are they, and where did they come from?” I answered, “Sir, you know.” And he said, “These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore, “they are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will spread his tent over them. Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst. The sun will not beat upon them, nor any scorching heat. For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; he will lead them to springs of living water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”  (Revelation 7:9-17)

Pt. 36 - Four Winds & 144,000

Four_WindsAfter this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth to prevent any wind from blowing on the land or on the sea or on any tree.

Then I saw another angel coming up from the east, having the seal of the living God. He called out in a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm the land and the sea:  “Do not harm the land or the sea or the trees until we put a seal on the foreheads of the servants of our God.”

Then I heard the number of those who were sealed: 144,000 from all the tribes of Israel. From the tribe of Judah 12,000 were sealed, from the tribe of Reuben 12,000, from the tribe of Gad 12,000, from the tribe of Asher 12,000, from the tribe of Naphtali 12,000, from the tribe of Manasseh 12,000, from the tribe of Simeon 12,000, from the tribe of Levi 12,000, from the tribe of Issachar 12,000, from the tribe of Zebulun 12,000, from the tribe of Joseph 12,000, from the tribe of Benjamin 12,000.  (Revelation 7:1-8)

Holding Back The Four Winds

On the surface it would appear that the four angels are merely holding back the four winds to prevent them from damaging anything on earth before the appointed time, and that is certainly part of the story. In fact, it‘s openly stated in the text that these angels will be “given power to harm the land and sea.” But first, God’s people will be "sealed" with a mark in the same way that they were sealed in Ezekiel 9:4 before Jerusalem was destroyed.

When we examined the ‘seven seals’ in earlier posts we noted that the word for ‘seal’ denoted a signature rather than a physical seal, as with the signet ring wax seals that were used on Greek documents of the day.  That fact completely changed our understanding of what the seven seals of the Revelation are all about, since they actually described the seven signatories on Christ‘s ketubah.
